When Susan, The twins mum first got in touch asking me to photograph her twins first morning getting ready and going to school, i wasn’t keen. Starting school is such a massive deal in a child’s life, i didn’t want to be this strange lady turning up and making it more stressful and scary. I discussed it with some photographer pal’s who have children, they completely changed my mind, they said it was a great idea as mum’s and dad’s are just too busy getting everything ready that they don’t get the time to remember all the lovely little moments. I replied to to Susan saying i would photograph the morning but i wanted to to do it in a documentary style, i didn’t want to force the twins to do anything that wasn’t natural to them. It really was a lovely experience and i completely understand now why Susan wanted a photographer to capture the moments as she has 4 kids!! Grandpa was on duty to watch the other two while mum and dad got things ready for the twins. They were so independent, wanting to put on their own shoes and do up their own buttons, even little things like this were lovely wee moments. The weather was really dreich but that didn’t matter, wellies and puddles are great fun to kids. Susan had a few wee sobs at the school while the twins just took it all in their stride.
